The firm didn't just want more visitors. They wanted to own one specific practice area in one specific city, and they wanted Google to recognize them for it.

The Client

A personal injury firm in Carlsbad, California focused on nursing home and elder abuse cases. Unlike a broad personal injury practice, this firm wanted to be known for one thing: fighting for victims of nursing home and elder abuse in their own backyard.

Their ask was specific, not generic. Rather than chasing traffic for any personal injury term, they wanted to rank for elder abuse searches in Carlsbad specifically, since that is the client base they actually wanted to serve.

The Challenge

The site's own content was working against the firm's goal. Duplicate content across pages diluted keyword targeting, and existing pages weren't built around search intent, so Google had no clear signal for which page should rank for which practice area.

Duplicate content. Overlapping pages competed with each other instead of building authority around one topic.

Weak keyword targeting. Existing content wasn't structured around the terms people were actually searching, including the firm's top priority: elder abuse in Carlsbad.

No local authority signal. The firm had no backlink profile establishing it as a trusted local source in this specific niche.

The Approach

The fix started with cleaning up what was already there, then building outward.

  1. Fix the keyword targeting

Rebuilt the site's keyword map around the practice areas that mattered most, with elder abuse in Carlsbad prioritized per the client's own request.

  2. Eliminate duplicate content

Removed overlapping, duplicate pages competing against each other, consolidating authority onto the pages actually meant to rank.

  3. Rewrite existing content for search

Updated existing pages to be genuinely SEO-focused instead of purely informational, aligning content with how people actually search.

  4. Build monthly backlinks for local authority

Ran an ongoing backlink campaign to establish the firm as a trusted local authority, paired with our Topical Roadmap to build full topical coverage around elder abuse rather than one isolated page.

The Results

Within six months, the firm's target keyword, "Carlsbad Nursing Home Abuse Lawyer," reached the number-one position in Google, up from position 4. Monthly organic traffic grew from 60 to 230 visitors in the same window, a 3.8x increase.

More importantly for the client, the firm didn't just rank for one keyword. Using our Topical Roadmap approach, they became a local authority across the entire elder abuse topic in Carlsbad, exactly what they had asked for from the start.

Keyword Wins

The gains extended well beyond the flagship keyword, with the firm's core local terms climbing together.

Why It Worked

The win was not just more traffic. It was becoming the name Google trusts for elder abuse in Carlsbad.

Ranking for one keyword is easy to lose. Owning a topic is not. By cleaning up duplicate content, rebuilding keyword targeting around what the client actually wanted to be known for, and backing it with a steady backlink and topical authority campaign, the firm didn't just hit #1 for its flagship keyword, it became the local authority Google reaches for anytime someone in Carlsbad searches for elder abuse help.
